When choosing my favorite advertisement I discovered that there are so many different sorts of advertisements for animal shelters. I noticed that some advertisements were trying to reel you in by using different techniques. For example one of the most well-known commercials is the one where there is a slideshow of super sad looking dogs in shelter cages with a woman talking over about saving abused and abandoned dogs. There were millions of super sad images for advertisements that I found when I searched however I wanted to find a different approach. I chose the ad below because it incorporated some humor along with a powerful message. The ad shows a very happy looking dog and I love how it focuses on the feeling the dog gets after they get adopted and the impact you make on them if you adopt them. I feel like most animal ads use a guilt trip method by showing how upset and miserable the dogs are in the shelter which I agree has an effect on people however I feel like seeing happy and rejuvenated animals would be more effective. I also love how in the advertisement they used a "quote from the dog" to add some personal aspect to it for people to relate to. The advertisement came from "The Shelter Pet Project" which is another organization striving for a better life for shelter pets. They have many ad campaigns shedding a very positive light on shelter adoption. Lastly their motto "A person is the best thing to happen to a shelter pet" completely aligns with the whole topic of my blog. That is what I want to engrave in people's minds, humans are literally a pet's whole life.

If I were to make a living with a job having to do with dogs and rescue dogs I would probably only be able to help build awareness as it is a hard issue to resolve single handedly. If I were to go off on my own I would probably keep blogging and try to get on a larger scale to be noticed. I could help out at animal shelters around the world to spread awareness if I wanted to travel and do my job. However I could also join forces with an existing company who has already built their brand up and is already known to the world. The National Humane Society, for example, is an existing company that I would probably reach out to as they are known nationally and they strive for the same things as I do. Unfortunately with the topic I chose there is not too much that can be done to help rescue dogs by ourselves, we just have to keep trying to spread the word to hopefully make a change in the legal system. Eventually I hope there is regulations that animal shelters have to follow to demolish this outrageous and extremely preventable issue of the conditions of animal shelters. Dogs and any other animal for that matter deserve amazing lives. Why is animal cruelty such a big issue? I wish I knew, these defenseless animals are so much more than some people treat them. In conclusion, as maybe not my entire career but as a side job/ passion, I hope to make a significant difference and change the atmosphere of animal shelters.
www.americanhumane.org/fact-sheet/animal-shelter-euthanasia-2/ www.humanesociety.org/about/employment/ www.aspca.org/about-us/careers There are millions of people out there who are doing exactly what I am doing here on my blog. People who are trying to change the atmosphere of animal shelters and the fate of the majority of rescue animals. Like I have talked about in my previous blog posts, the National Humane Society strives to do exactly this, they are probably the most known company who has to do with shelter pets. Another person who has inspired me to choose this topic is the lady who we got my rescue dog, Charlie, from. She started up and owns 11th Hour Animal Rescue, which she runs from her own home. She is one woman who adopts rescue animals who are about to be euthanized or need a lot of help and then puts them up for adoption from her own very backyard. She would rescue all the dogs in the world if she could, she does not have a ton of money but she is so dedicated and does what she loves. She even has alpacas, cats and sheep that she also rescued. She has a Facebook page for where she shares lost dog posts, adoptable dogs and spreads awareness of help that is needed for dogs all over. She told my family about this one time she went in to an animal shelter and came home with 32 dogs (every single dog in the shelter) because she could not stand to leave any one of them. It was in the middle of winter and the day of she lost power for 3 days and she said it was the most crazy and stressful time but she does not regret any part of it. It is people like her who make me believe that anything is possible, so many people say that they can not go in to shelters because they would want to adopt all of them, and this woman did just that. There needs to be more people like her in the world. If it was not for her Charlie and so many other dogs would not have the life they all do today. www.facebook.com/11th-Hour-Animal-Rescue-and-Sanctuary-263851886981192/?fref=ts nationalhumanesociety.org/ My dog, Charlie, who we rescued from 11th Hour Animal Rescue.
This blog is all about dogs and ultimately if you own one you understand the impact that they have on our lives just by being themselves. They help in so many different ways that some people do not give them enough credit for. Besides giving unconditional love, loyalty and being there when no one else is, for some people their dog is all they have. In the dog's perspective, their owners are literally their whole world. It breaks my heart how many dogs or any animal are in shelters or abandoned and on their own. The saddest thing is that they do not know any different, until we show them. That is why we see so many emotional videos on Facebook or the internet about certain dogs whose life has been turned around from something so tragic and then they get adopted and nursed back to health. But there are an obscene number of dogs in shelters that do not get that 2nd chance. Shelters cause dogs to completely change in behavior, if a dog is in a shelter too long then it will become aggressive due to the fact that they have been isolated for so long and their only experiences with humans have been bad ones. After dogs become aggressive then they are labeled as "unadoptable" because they are seen as dangerous and then they become euthanized. This problem can 100% be avoided, it is not the dog that is in fault, the conditions that dogs in shelters have to endure makes that dog's behavior change as a defense mechanism. Dogs of all ages are in shelters and it is a bigger problem than people even know. The National Humane Society realizes this problem and tries to improve the lives of shelter animals throughout the world. They strive for “improving the lives of rescue animals across America. We stand with shelters and humane societies around the country in the mission to find abandoned animals homes and to help rectify the over-population crisis of dogs and cats in the US”. It is organizations like these that give me hope for the future of shelter dogs, because something needs to be changed.
